I know everyone has Facebook and other social media websites where you can read about others and see picture. The friends you have on Facebook have you ever read one of the post and it seems “they are on their last straw”, “hit rock bottom” they could be depressed or just upset or maybe even thinking about end there life. I know that there are some days when everyone feels down and need a lift, and then there are some that are down all the time, for me those are the ones that I pray for, because no one likes to feel that way. There is help out there for people that need help but most won’t ask for it.

Facebook and a couple other social media websites have a program that can view your updates and comments, and they can read posts and if you post something that suggested that you are going to commit suicide. The Durkheim Project is supposed to be there if you reach out, they can help you, by viewing your statuses and other post. This app uses artificial intelligence that would look for key words or phrases that may indicate suicidal thought. This is where they can jump in and possible save your life at least that is what they want to do. When they first started out they were following veterans and found that many of them were suicidal. This program may not be able to last that long because if you don’t reach out for help they cannot help you. Even veterans have to ask for the help, and I think it is recommended to them. They join this program that installs an app on their device, so they can even view the posts and statues that are posted from your cell phone or other systems besides computers.

I have concerns with this Durkheim Project I would not want anyone that is not on my friends list to view anything that I may post on Facebook. I know that others can hack in and view other information. I do have some friends that do post some very depressing things on Facebook but it nothing to the point  that I would be thinking that they wanting to end their life. But I am sure that veterans have seen many things in their days and I am sure it can be hard to forget some of the things, and can tear up the insides of someone, and typically it’s hard to talk about their experiences. Then in this circumstance it may help save someone’s life. This is a positive for the project that it can help; the negative is that many may not reach out for help when they need it the most. I would hate to see someone commit suicide because of something that someone posted on Facebook or any other social media website.
