This article is a great of example of how social media can be used for something good.A 22 year old boy pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular man slaughter.Cordell mad a YouTube video confessing his crime. He admits to drunk driving at the time of the accident. His video has had over 2 million views. The most beneficial part of this video is the fact that he posted the video on the site called "Because I said I would". An Internet site that encourages readers to remember the importance and commitment to goals. This teen has made a #commitment to sobriety. Unfortunately a 61 year old man was killed in the process. This teen has at least made an effort in his you tube video to educate young teens on the dangers of drinking and driving. Not only can you harm yourself but also harm someone else. It is a very sad story however some good has come out to help future teens not to make the same mistake, #don't drink and drive. The teen was so intoxicated when he was questioned by police he did not even realize that he was in an accident. So many people have lost their lives to others Drink and driving. I can only hope that this story serves as an example for people of all ages.
The video is really sad to watch and gives a complete confession. He takes vows to take full responsibility for his actions. In the end of the video he pleas and asks that no one drinks and drives. He states you and your victims can still be saved, #save your victim.
It is good to see that Social Media is being used in a positive way. Although this story does have a tragic background. These days you see Social Media being used for advertising, teens using it for bullying and tormenting other teens, stupid pranks and jokes that often involve someone getting hurt. I feel this video truly shows this boys feelings and emotions. With all the publicity this video has received if a least one person thinks not to drink or drive this boy possibly made a difference. He can not take back what he has done but he can tell his story and possibly change someone else.
I guess from the other side, if I were the victims family I can't say that I would see it my way. They could think of it as a desperate attempt to look good in court or minimize his sentence. Maybe he is just using the video to make himself feel better and truly doesn't mean anything he is saying. The truth is no one will ever really know. I do believe one person can make a difference and if his story stops another person from driving drunk then a small victory was made. I hope he stands by his pledge.
Labels, Commitment to sobriety, don't drink and drive, save your victim
I saw this video online and I found it to be shocking. I had never seen someone use social media like this before. His story was chilling, and I hope it prevents others from drinking and driving.
