The Death of Social Schizophrenia, chapter six was very good. I really enjoyed this chapter and I found I could relate.

I feel that I am generation X. I lived in the "Schizophrenic" world. These people take on a different role  while at work but assume an entirely different identity off the job. Generation X may believe that social media makes life worse but cant deny social media has changed the way we live. I would say I have to agree with this statement. In some ways I sympathize with generation X. While I can agree that in some ways social media has definitely changed the way we live. I can not say however that I have enjoyed some of it. While most things that happened outside of work have not changed over the years but what has changed is how many and who views it. Its unfortunate that I have to screen my photos that I put on my Facebook page due to the fact that I do not want my employer to see them. My life has not changed but how I display it has. This is one of the downfalls of social media. Football players and even cheerleaders now have to watch what they say on social media sites. For the 2009 NFL draft,  teams created fake Facebook profiles of beautiful women with the hopes that the future prospects would accept them as friends. This would allow the team to no be able to view the prospects page, to do sort of a background checks. The morale to the story? Do not put anything Facebook that you want the whole world to see. Including not only your friends but even your future employer.

I can not relate to people who play interactive and virtual roles. Games like Farmville do not peak my interest whatsoever.

One things is clear form this chapter. Social Media is changing the world. You better jump on the train and enjoy the ride. Even marketing jobs have changed due to social media. While it may not be beneficial in some instances social media has taken the world by storm and continues to grow each day.

  1. I agree that it is unfortunate that we have to worry about what we post on social media because it can possibly jeopardize our future. I think that it is sad that employers mostly go to social media to find out what might be bad about a employee instead of using it to find out good aspects. It makes it difficult to decide what to post and what not to post for the world to see because you never know what might offend someone or make you look bad!

  2. As much as it would suck to lose a job because of what I post on my social media, I feel that maybe I wouldn't want to work at those places. If a place bases my employment specifically on what I post on social media, then forget it. I am much more than my Facebook profile, That has nothing to do with my work ethic.

  3. I agree that people need to be conscious of what they post on Facebook. Employers are starting to look at social media profiles before deciding whether to hire a candidate. Inappropriate comments, pictures, and videos will hinder their ability to obtain a job.
