Is my teacher following me home from school

Privacy, privacy, privacy what does it really mean to the average school age child, young adult, or older adult.    We all have different ideals of this word but many times we choose it much like we throw out the words "I Love You."  Think back to previous relationships and how many times you used that phrase only to move on just to use the phrase again.  I believe privacy is used much like the love phrase we post everything we can about ourselves but only get mad if someone sees it that we did not want to see it.  Kind of contradiction when you think about it but now in Southern California the Glendale Unified School District has hired a company to monitor public profiles of students.

I know what you are saying now as your blood pressure rises, this is "COMMUNIST AND A VIOLATION OF MY RIGHTS AND CHILDS PRIVACY."   It is estimated that 8 out of 10 teens that committed suicide tried to ask for help, do you think those parents wished they had a school system that had someone monitoring their child's post on FaceBook or Twitter.  1 in 5 children report to being bullied at school and maybe they are ashamed to tell their parents.  Sure would be nice if someone was looking our for the active interest of my child's well being.

No wait there is a school system that understands there are single parent homes, both parent working homes, and parents that just do not care.   The Glendale Unified School District has identifies problems that children face and came up with an very effective solution.  Many may disagree with this action taken and as an American you have that right to privacy unless of course you post it on a social media website with the ASSumption only those you want to see will look.

I agree as a parent I have certain responsibilities and I would love to say I am 100% aware of everything my children do but that clearly would be another ASSumption.  I have no problem this school district is doing based on the fact they cannot monitor private accounts only those that are public.

  1. The key in this post was PUBLIC profiles, though we know not to consider any social media private, by not making a profile private, one looses the right to complain about anyone one or organization from viewing.
    Great Topic.

  2. Good topic, I agree most social media posts are public anyway. Everyone will always have something to complain about no matter what you do. I wish in some ways children didn't have access to certain social media but that is not the way our society is going, so something small like this to watch out for their well being isnt going to hurt anyone.

  3. Bullying is such a big thing now and so many kids are committing suicide, if I had a child in school, I'd want them to do whatever they could to discover any problems and help to fix it and find the kids doing the bullying - until there are some serious consequences for these kids by schools and parents, it's not going to stop. I work with 2 people who are mean and talk to the secretaries like they are dirt - I consider that bullying! The boss has heard them do it and has done nothing but say "don't do it." - We're looking into filing a written complaint on their behalf and maybe getting them suspended without pay - maybe that'd make them think twice about being nasty to coworkers.

  4. I THINK SOCIAL MEDIA HAS MANY ADVANTAGES BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT USED ONLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OR COMPANY. IT SEEMS THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IT IS A CROOKED GAME PLAYED BY MINDLESS & VENGEFUL PEOPLE. NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT EXTENSIVELY BY SOCIAL MEDIA. FOR INSTANCE SUCIDE, LOST JOBS, LOST FAMILY & FRIENDS.

  5. Great topic. We often see things that should have been noticed when it is too late. In cases of child suicide for example. I try to monitor my children's pages, but I'm sure there is a lot of things that are posted that I do not see. With all of the blocking features, etc you only see what they want you to.
