It amazes me at the amount of social media that takes place in the world today. Within a matter of a few seconds I can send pictures or posts or tweets to just about anyone in the world. When I was in school we had never heard of Facebook or Twitter or even a blog. Nowadays everything is done through social media networking. I recall a situation that happened a few years ago concerning a friend of mine. She was a high school teacher and because of social media (and a little bad judgment on her part) her whole career was ruined. She was always a little rowdy and liked to have a good time. Some would say she was always the life of the party! She was attending a party that had some underage drinkers there. She was not the host of the party nor did she supply any of the alcohol. However, some pictures of her at the party got put on Facebook and within a day she was called into the principals office and terminated! These young party-goers were not students of hers. They were underage but all over 18 and out of high school. She was not aware that pictures were even being taken and never knew that anything would be displayed on Facebook for everyone to see. She was humiliated and devastated that her privacy would be invaded like that and put out there in the manner that it was. It just goes to show that with social media you never know who is watching and what things about you may end up on display for everyone to see.
Do you think my friend was justly fired?
