No special treatment here!

Is Martha Stewart really serious? Really? She seriously expected an Apple rep to come pick up her shattered iPad just maybe because she is the queen of the home-goods realm? An article on Mashable http://mashable.com/2013/09/28/martha-stewart-apple-ipad/ provides us with a look into her rants and raves via Twitter after the mogul broke her Steve Jobs-gifted iPad.

Tweeting initially that she wondered how to go about getting her device repaired, Stewart tweeted a second time when she did not get a fast enough response. Her initial tweet at 5:44 p.m. on 9/25:

"I just dropped my iPad on the ground and shattered two glass corners. What to do?does one call Apple to come and pick it up or do I take it?"

So rather than calling Apple to take action, she was hoping that she would get an immediate response via Twitter. Not so! Her second tweet came at 7:49 the next morning:

"I am still waiting for an apple rep to come pick up my IPad. No action yey".

So... while it's true social media can provide a quick response in most cases, wouldn't one think that Stewart would realize that she should probably pick up the phone or visit Apple's website to get answers? Doesn't she have a staff that could do this for her? The author points out that Apple's website directs its customers to take their product to the nearest store or ship it for repairs - pickup is not an option. Even so, Martha Stewart apparently felt she could make a special request!
Stewart continued her sarcastic rant by offering her entrepreneurial idea of same-day fixit "Apple Now" on her next tweet which came at about 12:29. Apparently Apple's public relations team didn't find it so funny, as another Stewart tweet displays her disbelief:

"i cannot believe that Apple Public Relations is mad at me for tweeting about my Ipad and how to get it fixed! steve jobs gave it to me!"

So,in just over a 24-hour period, Stewart spent some time via Twitter venting her frustration about her broken iPad, the slow response by Apple followed by her surprise at Apple's public relations reprimand. I guess she seemed to think that because Steve Jobs gave the iPad to her that she was entitled to some special treatment? If the rest of us have to endure either walking the iPad into a store or mailing it off then by all means she should be required to do the same!

We all know how social media can paint either a positive or negative spin on a brand or company. In this case, I think Martha Stewart painted another negative spin on herself! No special treatment here!

  1. Oh, that's just crazy. I can't stand when anyone, let alone a celebrity, thinks that they should get special treatment. So what if Steve Jobs gave it to her personally? She is still just a customer.

    1. Yes my point exactly! She made such a big deal of this thinking it would get her somewhere; seems like Apple stuck to their guns on this one.
