The article I choice to review was
one posted on the amount of information collected by the NSA and what they do
with this information. It turns out that
information leaked by whistle blower Edward Snowden, the NSA wasn’t just
collecting information on foreigners of interest but also on American citizens
as well. It was discovered by Snowden’s
leak that the NSA is using email and phone logs to monitor American’s social
connections, along with these connections they were also using bank codes,
insurance information, Facebook profiles, passenger manifests, voter
registration rolls, GPS location information, property records, and tax
information in building these visual graphs of American’s social connections. Whatever gave the federal government and the
NSA the right to violate the privacy of the American people?
I think after 9/11, a lot of
Americans and even myself were very upset with what happened and we wanted the
American government to seek justice on those who had done this wrong. In our lack of judgment we allowed the
federal government too much control in the name of keeping us safe. I think Benjamin Franklin put it best, “Those
who would trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither”. This statement best describes what has occurred
in allowing the federal government to walk all over our 4th Amendment
rights. The government doesn’t have any
business tracking, monitoring, or developing any type of “social connections”
with our private information; this is a clear violation of our 4th
Amendment rights. The American citizens
need to turn this current NSA spying situation around on the federal government
by telling our elected officials to vote to defund this program. The American citizens were given a document
that was meant to control the federal government, which is our Constitution. The Constitution gives us the right to spy
on the federal government and it’s time we start reining in the federal government
and these types of violations on our civil liberties.

Good post, Kevin. I know a lot of people are upset by this, but I guess it just doesn't bother me much. I feel like I'm an open book with nothing to hide - all my dealings are on the up and up, so if they want to spy to look for some people who aren't honest and up to no good, maybe they'll find them before they do something to hurt a lot of people. Sure is interesting stuff though.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Barbara. I have nothing to hide, so this doesn't bother me in the least. It seems to me that most of the people in the news lately that do horrible things are the ones you would least expect.

ReplyDeleteThank you both for posting on my blog! I can appreciate both of your points of view, I think we need to look at this as a bigger issue than " I have nothing to hide, so who cares if they look into my private information". This is a slippery slop, if you let the federal government spy on you, they'll just continue to take your Liberties! Stand up to them now and keep the government in check, it's our job..
