Have you ever heard the phrase, "It's not official until its Facebook official?" I've heard that saying for my past two relationships. Notice how I said "past two relationships." My relationships and Facebook do not get along. Facebook or any other type of social media is not the place to find your next relationship. Facebook has literally been the reason I have ended relationships because it is too open and easy to talk to people that apparently they shouldn't be talking to.
Facebook is simple an easy way of keeping up with friends and family. As a single person I've noticed I do pay more attention to my family than more so my friends now. I've never used Facebook to find a date or a relationship and I really don't plan to ever do that. In a way, I look at it as if you were in a job interview. Most jobs, as it says in chapter 2, will search through your Facebook to get an idea of who you are. They don't want to see a bunch of pictures where you are stupid drunk and with alcohol in your hands. Most jobs will not hire you if they see pictures like that.
I have met some people on Facebook but would never decide to date them. I'll look at their pictures and I'll decide what kind of person they are. The whole idea of Facebook is a wonderful idea but with almost everyone having one these days, it's bound to cause problems in someones life.
Great points McKena. Far too many people hang thier life out there on Social Media. It might cool while you are younger, but nothing online really ever "goes away". A terrible yearbook photo makes for good laughs at the company Christmas or retirement party, drunken nights in the gutter; not so much.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting - my niece is in the process of getting a divorce - she caught her husband "facebook cheating" - what an idiot - did you really not think you'd get caught doing that? He was spending hours of his phone - I know it wasn't the reason for cheating but it sure made it easier to be lured in. SM is a powerful, but sometimes dangerous thing - care in what you post is certainly something to remember.
ReplyDeleteSadly, people don't realize how to use social media responsibly. I have a feeling that most people who cheat online would cheat in real life. It's just easier to do online.
