This video was very effective but I do question the
statement that there are more phones then there are people in the world. While I do believe this is true it may not be
entirely relevant. It is important to remember
that correlation is not causation. We
can draw conclusions but it doesn’t make it fact, more like a theory or
assumption. The overall message is that
there are a lot of people in the world and a lot of them are using phones. But there are so many other factors to this
idea. My father owns a construction
company. He has 50 mobile phones
for the company. He is only one person
(1:50). While he owns 50 phones not
all of them are smart phones. Which are
the phones that are required to access this information described in the
video. Some people have a personal phone
and a work phone (1:2).
The video did provide a lot of information, and I agree with
the message as a generalization that if you don’t have a pulse on mobile, your
company will not grow or possibly survive. However, I think the degree of
survival (not having a pulse) depends on
the type on industry you are in. While I
work for a commercial construction company many of the attributes of going
mobile will not benefit us. Because we
are a commercial company, mobile coupons do not apply to our industry being
that we do not offer coupons or promotions in any way now, nor will we ever.
But I do see many companies that could use this; our industry would be an
exception (unless it was residential). However,
this is only one aspect of many parts of going mobile.
Making our company mobile would be helpful in allowing our
company information and our website to be more accessible. I do think a QR code
will also be beneficial to in order to pull together all our social media information
(Twitter, Linked In, Facebook page, company website) together in one place,
while scanning the code the client or viewer easy quickly directed to our
information.
Overall the message in the video seems to put out a very
strong message that if you don’t apply the mobile aspect to your company that
it will not have a “pulse” for long. While
I agree with a lot of what they are saying in regards to if your company
doesn’t use some of this more modern technology, which is being used often,
then your competitor will and the company could miss out on potential clients. I think the reality is that it all really
depends on the industry need for this.
