Watching the Mobile Stats Video by Eric Qualman was rather surprising.
The video provided a lot of statistics and comparisons that illustrated how
mobile our world is becoming and has become. The most interesting part of the
video was the statistic that companies spend less than 1% on mobile. I would have expected a higher percentage
spent on mobile considering the fact that the consumer has been connected for
quite some time now. Twitter and other social media outlets have been around
for a few years and I would have expected there to be more of an emphasis on
building a social media presence within a company.
The future implications of our mobile society is rather
unclear but I believe that social media is not going to diminish in the near
future and that there will be a continual increase in how businesses use social
media and how the consumer uses social media. The interconnection between
company and consumer will be interesting to observe and it will be even more
interesting to see companies embrace and adopt technology. It will be
especially interesting to see what happens to companies who fail to adopt a
forward thinking social media plan and strategy.
I hope that the increase of social media and connectivity
will result in an improvement in living conditions and opportunities in
underdeveloped nations and that it will provide an opportunity for growth in
these nations. Hopefully, the ability to connect with those outside your
immediate world will be put to good use and that mutually beneficial activities
and relationships can occur. Quite simply, the potential for progress and
opportunity could be quite limitless with people’s access to social media and
being highly mobile.
