Here are 10 Great Books or Series of Books You Should Read

Of the many great lessons I learned from my Mother, before she left this world at the tender age of 47, is the wonders of a great book. I was lucky in that she recognized that I was an advanced reader and did not hold me back to books written for my chronological age. Today when I need to feel close to my Mother, I pick up a good book and I feel her presence, even if it is a book she would not have chosen to read for herself.  Having the love of a good book, and reading the poor one when no other options is readily available has helped me by allowing me a chance to escape to another world when I feel the stress of this one closing in.
I present you a top ten book list. Technically some of these books are a series rather than an individual book, to that I say "My list, my rules".

10) Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck

9)  The Tawny Man Series - Robin Hobb

8)  The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien

7) The Temeraire Series - Naomi Novik

6) The Dark Elf Trilogy - R.A. Salvatore

5)  The Lord of The Rings Series - J.R.R. Tolkien

4)  The Foundation Series - Isaac Asimov

3)  Fear Nothing - Dean Koontz

2)  Cat and Mouse - James Patterson

1)  The Godfather - Mario Puzo

This is an ever changing list and is only a snapshot of my mood and a moment in time. Sci-Fi and intrigue books will always be on the list, but if you ask me next week the list may be different. Today I am feeling nostalgic, so the books are made up of books that I read some time ago. The Godfather makes the top spot because it was the first "adult" book I read.  I could have just as easily made  a top ten of Koontz or Patterson books, or  the greatest  books I read because they where the only thing available.  Thinks to the advance of digital publishing, this is less of an issue.
Now go enjoy some books.

  3. @KChaze72, I enjoyed the Game of Thrones as well. Just a little pissed the Mr Martin is playing with HBO and not giving me more books to read.
@Kimberly, to me having time to read for enjoyment is as essential as having air to breathe :)

  6. Loved the list, reading is something my mom has always taught me to enjoy as well, and I will forever be thankful for that. Of Mice and Men was probably one of my favorite books I've ever had to read for school next to The Catcher in the Rye.

  7. One of my favorites is "Tender Is the Night" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I read all of his work in high school, and while most people say "The Great Gatsby" is the best, I rank others above it.
